Save Our Sounds Letter-Writing Campaign at Patagonia

Join us in taking action to Save our Sounds by urging your representatives in Raleigh to prohibit the use of large-scale inshore bottom shrimp trawls in our shallow sounds. It’s time for North Carolina to move destructive inshore bottom shrimp trawling out of our estuaries, just as every other state on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts mandates and prioritizes the health of their marine resources.

Charlotte Earth Day

Charlotte’s largest annual Earth Day celebration brings together community members to celebrate our environment, engage families with fun educational activities, foster lifelong connections with nature, and connect attendees with environmentally-conscious organizations and businesses from the Charlotte area.

City Nature Challenge: Charlotte BioBlitz

Sunday, April 27, 2025, 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Location: Eastway Regional Recreational Center, 3150 Eastway Park Dr., Charlotte NC 28213

Join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter and Central Carolina Master Naturalists to participate in the City Nature Challenge. Using nets, bug jars, and other field equipment, we will photograph plants, animals, and other WILDlife; and contribute to community science by uploading our observations to iNaturalist!

The City Nature Challenge is an international community science effort for people to document wildlife in cities across the globe. In this bioblitz-style competition, cities compete with each other to see who can make the most observations of living organisms. Participate in the City Nature Challenge by taking pictures of plants and wildlife in your backyard or neighborhood park and uploading them to iNaturalist anytime between Friday, April 25th and Monday, April 28th. 

Backyard Wildlife Conservation with Allison Channell

Join Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District (MSWCD) for an informative presentation on backyard wildlife and the vital role conservation practices play in urban environments in North Carolina. Explore practical tips and strategies to create a thriving habitat for local wildlife, from native plants to water conservation, all while promoting biodiversity and environmental stewardship in your own backyard. Discover how small changes can make a big impact on preserving the natural beauty and wildlife in our communities. 

Save the Date! Kids in Nature Day (KIND)

Sunday, October 5, 2025, 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Location: Reedy Creek Park, Shelter 4, 2900 Rocky River Road, Charlotte NC 28215

Kids in Nature Day (KIND) is a free, fun-filled, hands-on adventure where kids and families get up close with nature! Activities include meeting animal ambassadors, creating art from things found only in nature, a guided nature hike, exploring native plants and animals, animal-themed yoga, and more.

Our programs and events are free and open to everyone.

Monthly educational programs run September through May and are offered in-person at Sardis Baptist Church and online. Occasionally we have a remote speaker in which case the program will be online only.

Other events such as creek cleanups, guided nature walks, birdhouse installations, invasive plant removals, and more are held across the Charlotte area and provide a fun, family-friendly way to connect with nature.
